Coming to Frontier Estate next winter (2026), The Maples Early Learning Centre will offer a caring, inspiring environment for children and support up to 100 families in our growing community.
Frontier Estate is set to welcome a compassionate, community-centred early learning provider next winter, with the arrival of The Maples Early Learning Centre. Led by the experienced mother and daughter team Tracey Aubin and Daynah Smallwood, The Maples will support up to 100 families and create between 20 and 35 new jobs in the local community.
At the heart of The Maples is a deep belief that children flourish in environments where relationships, care, and curiosity are genuinely valued. Their philosophy emphasises belonging, empowerment, and the importance of nurturing each child’s unique identity.
The Maples places respectful relationships at the centre of daily life. Through open communication and strong partnerships, the team builds meaningful connections with children, families, teachers, and the wider community. Children are supported holistically, including emotionally, physically, socially, and cognitively, through kind and thoughtful interactions that help them develop confidence, empathy, and independence.
Their curriculum grows from children’s interests and strengths, encouraging hands-on exploration, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning. Play is at the core of this journey, supported by thoughtfully designed learning environments created to inspire curiosity, creativity, and a sense of joy.
Once open, The Maples plans to extend children’s learning beyond the centre through a dedicated nature-based programme using Frontier Estate’s Mahana Reserve and Waiora Reserve. These natural spaces will offer opportunities for children to explore the outdoors, observe the environment, and develop resilience through real-world experiences.
Outdoor learning will encourage problem-solving, confidence, and independence, complementing the centre’s curriculum and helping children build a deeper connection with the natural world.
The Maples also intends to continue its tradition of community engagement by incorporating local outings into its programme. Visits to parks, libraries, local facilities, and familiar places around Te Awamutu will give children opportunities to explore and develop a strong sense of connection to their community.
Tracey and Daynah bring more than a decade of early childhood experience through their work at Old MacDonald’s Morrinsville. As both educators and mothers, they understand the importance of creating a safe, beautiful, and nurturing environment that feels like an extension of home.
The centre’s team will include qualified teachers, in-training teachers, relief teachers, a centre chef, and support roles. Four-day work weeks and part-time options will be available, reflecting a commitment to staff wellbeing and sustainable teaching practice.
The Maples Early Learning Centre will open alongside Frontier Estate’s emerging Commercial Hub, which includes a café, retail spaces, a superette, and a medical precinct featuring Te Awamutu Medical Centre with up to six GPs and Frontier Pharmacy. Families who call Frontier Estate home will have essential amenities right on their doorstep.
The Maples Early Learning Centre is opening in Winter 2026, and spaces are expected to fill fast. If you’re looking for a nurturing, inspiring start for your little one, now is the time to get in touch.
