Connecting Nature and Play at Frontier Estate

Inspired by the site’s orchard past, the Frontier Estate playground blends natural materials, playful colours, and inclusive features. It’s a vibrant hub where children can explore, climb, and connect with the surrounding environment.

Urban Park Concept

Frontier Estate in Te Awamutu isn’t just about homes, it’s about creating spaces where community, nature, and fun come together. The new playground, designed by Brodie Hailwood, is at the heart of this vision, bringing family-friendly play to the forefront of this 39.5-hectare development.

The playground is part of 6.77 hectares of dedicated parkland within Frontier Estate, surrounded by native plants, gully systems, and 2 km of walking trails. Located at the corner of Pioneer Drive and Revelation Drive, the park connects seamlessly to nearby reserves and streams, including the Mangapiko Stream, Mahana Reserve, and Waiora Reserve, offering locals access to the wider natural environment through interlinking walking and cycling trails.

Playground Theme & Design

Celebrating Frontier Estate’s history as an orchard, the playground is designed to spark curiosity and play, drawing inspiration from the fruit trees and natural surroundings that once defined the land.

Bright, playful colours and natural materials create engaging spaces for children, while subtle nods to the estate’s orchard past add a sense of story and place. It’s a lively, inviting area where young explorers can connect with nature and adventure.
